Take the legs out

This was this mornings lesson.
Give them a proper boot to the legs where the nerves are so they get a dead leg- we were practicing in and down. It's hard but effective - and quite a safe kick as it's not too high.

Hey- let's face it, if I'm going down it will be spectacularly done.

What with all these Sensei laughing at the idea of me doing kumite I'm starting to feel like I have a point to prove.

A small tiny minuscule piece of me is starting to think, bring it. I can hit and take a hit- how hard can the rest be...

(Famous last words eh.)

On a different note. I'm sick. Last night I could feel my throat getting sore and I was sweating a LOT more than usual.
Today I woke up feeling rough - I only got 3 hours sleep- but went to training.
Then had a sleep because I was tired and dont feel amazing. Woke up with a lost voice and the starts of what feels like a horrible cough. :/
I can't get sick. Got shit to be doing!
Arghhhhhh!
Still- I had a good run- 7 months with nothing in this strange new place. I must have a pretty good immune system!

28th May 2015

Today marks exactly one month until the competition and I can't train because of the torrential rain!!

Instead I used today to get all the baking done at the bar, my lesson plans for the next week done for my students at school -and then went to actually teach them. Then worked at the bar.
Turned out to be a busy but productive day.

Got my gi washed too. Having three now is really helpful! I have a rotation system.

Training rain or shine tomorrow- decision has been made!

Kumite lesson number 1-
Keep your guard up and yourself to the angle.

Today we started to learn how to deflect blocks. I really need to speed everything up or this will be a epic fail.

James has a chest guard and all the mitts etc. I looked like baymax. If only it was as easy as a new chip eh.

Still, gambarimasu.

26th May 2015

Today,
Sensei, James and I decided I would take part in the Ryu Kyu Open Karate Tournament next month.
Initially I was just entering the kata competition but after talking with James we decided I would give the kumite a try :I !!!!
This is crazy- I have one month to train - kata would be hard enough but kumite too- I don't know much about kumite/ the rules etc so this is all going to be insanely new for me- as long as I don't get completely trampled all over I'll be happy!

Today I also signed up for the karate seminar happening here in July. It's a whole week of just karate training in all different styles so I should learn some cool stuff and meet some cool Sensei I haven't met yet!!

Back again... Hopefully!

So, it's been far too long since I've updated my blog- but those that have visited me know how insanely manic my life is now and that I don't really have much time to do anything let alone blog!
I'm going to make much more of a effort to come back though because we have some exciting stuff coming up over the next few months and it would be cool to keep you all up to date with it.

I've been doing lots of karate- kusanku daiyo!! :D
Lots of work and teaching, lots of working out and both Dad and Russell have visited and wherever I can fit it in I've done some baking, it's relaxing time to go make a mess and create something.

The plan over the next couple of days is to do a couple of back dating posts about things I've been doing and then I can hopefully continue on a every few days basis from there.

That's assuming all goes to plan!
Everything here is island time- it affects everyone once you've been here a while!
